Chiang Mai: Best Place to Visit in Thailand

Chiang Mai: Best Place to Visit in Thailand

This is a guest post written by Chole from GoGo Budget Travel. Chole shares her tips and recommendations about the best place to visit in Thailand.

What is the best place to visit in Thailand?

When it comes to Thailand, what’s the first place you think of? I bet it’s Bangkok. But Thailand is more than just Bangkok. If you ask me where is the best place to visit in Thailand, I will say it’s Chiang Mai.

Where is Chiang Mai?

Located 700km (435 miles) north of Bangkok, Chiang Mai is a city in mountainous northern Thailand. Founded in 1296 as the capital of the ancient Lanna Kingdom, it has now been transformed into a place where past and the present seamlessly integrate. Just in Chiang Mai alone, you can find over 300 temples. No other province in the whole of Thailand has more than that!

How to get around?

The best way to explore Chiang Mai is renting a car. Not only does it save you the hassle, it also saves you lots of money! Personally, I love budget car rental as it’s affordable and service is awesome. You can pick up and return the car at the international airport, so it’s convenient as well.

Where to do in Chiang Mai?

1. Explore the temples in the city
There are many must see temples in Chiang Mai, and most temples are of the ‘Lanna’ style, dating between the 13th and 18th centuries and characterized by curved wooden roofs pointing up at the top. All of them portray different atmosphere, I’m sure you’ll be awed!
2. Play at Elephant Retirement Park

Do you dream to play with elephants, feed them, shower them and have mud bath with them? Well, your dream will come true when you visit the Elephant Retirement Park. There’s no riding, chaining or beating of elephants in the park, instead, you get to see these lovely creatures happily roaming around. Isn’t it awesome?
3. Visit the Romantic Pai
Set in a particularly picturesque valley, Pai offers a relaxed atmosphere that you can rarely find in other places. Only 3 hours away by car, this little town offers unlimited opportunities to rewind in nature. Make sure to hike at the Pai Canyon. The serene, scenic canyon with narrow, ledgy hiking trails offer sweeping valley views. Check out the Best Things To Do In Pai now!
4. Explore Doi Inthanon National Park
Chiang Mai also has the highest peak in Thailand. Having a nicknamed “the roof of Thailand”, Doi Inthanon is part of the Himalayan mountain range, elevation ranges between 800 and 2565 meters. That’s why Doi Inthanon Trekking is a must do!
